Family Consultation
“The way you love each child equally is to love each child differently.”
Families are often the source of our greatest joy and greatest heartache—which makes since they are the source of our deepest and most complex attachment bonds. Adults in the middle of life often find themselves parenting children, teens, step-children, or offering critical care-giving to older adults—or all of the above!
Therefore, I offer “family consultation” for adults who are struggling with parenting or caregiving in traditional and non-traditional families. In traditional families, this often means discussing children who have learning differences and/or emotional problems. In non-traditional families, this means dealing with blended family dynamics, including, step-parents, step or half siblings, or single-care givers, and the echoes of divorce. In any case, we typically do not have the children (or young adults) join us in therapy, as that is often not necessary for me to guide parents / caregivers in how to be relate to the family member who is struggling.
